Dionne Rhoden arrived at WDF in 2004, after five years with a major electrical retailer. She initially joined us as a Sales Advisor in the Perfume Gallery and subsequently became a Fragrance Specialist in Heathrow’s busy Terminal 1.
“Although I live in Fulham and it takes me two hours to get to work, I love the shop because it’s quite small, so it’s like a little community. Everyone’s so friendly. If you have problems, people always help out. I love coming in and being surrounded my team and passengers. Everyone seems so much happier than they did when I was on the high street.
“It was my Line Manager who put me forward for the Fragrance Specialist role about a year ago. I was trained by an external company about all the major notes in certain fragrances and the differences between fresh and floral. I also learned about the different brands and their history. My favourite at the moment is Covet – the brand new Sarah Jessica Parker fragrance. Oriental and spicy.
“The main challenges are keeping on top of new products and achieving sales targets when people may think that they can buy more cheaply in the US. It’s important not to be too pushy. When I get in, I greet all the passengers in the shop and make sure everything is tidy and filled, with all the testers and price tickets in the right place.
“It’s great to see young kids in the airport, dancing to the music. And there are plenty of celebrities too. Posh and Becks, for instance. Michael Jackson. And Pierce Brosnan. He’s a lovely guy and comes into the shop.”
