Name: Beverly Temple
Airport: Durham Tees Valley
Store: Alpha
Position: Customer Service
Assistant
Beverly Temple initially joined WDF to cover for
maternity leave at Alpha, Durham Tees Valley Airport. When she was
offered a full time job, she was over the moon. Now she’s a
Customer Service Assistant.
I used to work for a jewellers. This is a
total change, but I loved it from the moment I started. The
team was very friendly and more like a family. It’s a very stable
team and I’m so excited to come in to work each day. Life is too
short to work at a place you don’t enjoy.
I work across all product lines and love them
all. Once, my manager challenged me to sell a huge amount of
Baileys and wanted them gone in a week. I sold them in a day and
she was astounded. I love people. I can talk a glass eye to
sleep.
The training is excellent. Everyone from our
store went to Newcastle for whisky training. A lady from the
distillery came and taught us about how they’re made and what
whiskies might suit certain people. Really interesting. I’m going
on a course soon for Customer Service Training and I can’t
wait.
I love costumes and dressing up, and here at
Alpha they’re quite happy for me to entertain the customers.
Sometimes I might come in as Alice in Wonderland or Cruella de
Ville. The other day we had a flight from Turkey through so I
dressed up with a Mama Mia/Abba theme. Even the customers started
singing along at one point - it was so much fun.
It’s such a small airport that every passenger who comes through
feels like I’m welcoming them into my home. It’s great. My
tip for new joiners? Enjoy it – it’s a lot of fun.
