Bournemouth Airport
Bournemouth Airport’s south of England location made it an
important base for WWII air runs in support of ground troops in
France. In 2008, it was ranked best airport in the United Kingdom
and 3rd best in the world by the Daily Telegraph Travel Awards. The
airfield was certainly a welcome sight for millionaire adventurer
Steve Fossett, who made an emergency landing there in 2006 – after
completing the longest non-stop flight in history.

Exeter Airport
With two dozen different RAF fighter squadrons based at Exeter,
this airport was a front row, centre stage witness to the Battle of
Britain. Nowadays, most of the flights going in and out of Exeter
are run by Flybe and occupied by people heading off to popular
European holiday destinations. The airline has four maintenance
hangars at the airport, equipped to service its fleet. During the
summer season, passengers can fly to Toronto on a once-weekly
service run by Air Transat.
